This choir is for you, whether you have always sung, used to sing or want to try some harmony singing. All voices are welcome and there is no audition. Being able to read music is a plus but not essential.
The Whittington Singers aim for a high standards and a great sound in a supportive, relaxed atmosphere.
Our repertoire runs from classical to modern, traditional, popular, early English, doo-wop, gospel and spiritual, sacred and secular, musical theatre and comic songs. A lot is packed into our rehearsal sessions. After a warm-up, we can practise up to 10 songs. Over the past 12 years, led by our principal Tom Scratchley, we have sung more than 200 pieces.
The Whittington Singers, originally the Yerbury Community Choir, has performed over the years at venues from the Royal Festival Hall, street festivals, an international food event, community centres, hospitals, churches, Cambridge colleges and pubs including our local, the Tufnell Park Tavern.
While we are based in the Archway/Tufnell Park area of Islington, you do not have to live in this area - everyone is welcome.
Rehearsals are held over 10-11 weeks during term time at Yerbury Primary School, 67 Foxham Road, London N19 4RR, on Mondays 7.30pm-9pm. First session free. Fees are £110/£88 unwaged for an 11-week term and there is a one-off cost of £5 per year to cover costs of music administration.
We rehearse during school term times. Dates are published on our Nextdoor group at https://nextdoor.co.uk/g/8mj5l9hpx and on our Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/whittingtonsingers.
